Description
Negro Felipe was a Venezuelan soldier that fought with the Royal Army and later with the Independence Army during the Venezuelan War of Independence, reaching the rank of lieutunant. The nickname Negro Primero was inspired by his bravery and skill in handling spears, and because he was always in the first line of attack on the battlefield. It is also attributed to his having been the only black officer in the army of Simón Bolívar.
Maria lionza is at once a native girl, born in the 16th century to an Indian chief in the Venezuelan region of Yaracuy, and a goddess of nature, peace and harmony to over eight million Venezuelans in the 21st century.
Guaicaipuro was a legendary native Venezuelan chief of both the Teques and Caracas tribes and he was famous for resisting the invasion of Spanish colonizers into native lands, currently known as Caracas, who aimed to extract gold.
These three deities form a mythical group known as Las Tres Potencias (the Three Powers), and symbolise the triple ethnic and cultural origins of Venezuela.
